CSOs suspend agitation following positive govt response

Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Peren have decided to put their agitation on hold after authorities confirmed significant progress in the investigation of the Pimla murder case, including identifying the husband of the victim as the prime accused.

The Zeliangrong Youth Organization Nagaland (ZYON) had earlier announced the second phase of its agitation, including an indefinite district-wide bandh beginning June 10. However, following an emergency meeting held with CSOs and the district administration at the DC Conference Hall, Peren, on June 9, the bandh has now been called off.

Speaking to the press, ZYON president R John Zeliang confirmed that the police have identified the husband of the deceased as the main accused. He also stated that the Commissioner of Police has assured that the chargesheet is complete and will be submitted to the court on June 10.

Expressing satisfaction over the development, the ZYON president said the second phase of their agitation has been suspended. “We undertook the first phase of agitation because the state government was not taking the case seriously. It is not just about this incident; in many other cases, justice has not been delivered,” Zeliang remarked.

The case involves the murder of a woman whose body was found between Mhaikam and Pimla villages in Peren district.

Following the latest developments, the Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Nagaland (ZSUN), issued a public notice announcing the immediate withdrawal of the indefinite bandh.

According to the notice, the union’s demands have been met. The accused has been named publicly, fulfilling the union’s first demand. Authorities have assured that the chargesheet will be filed without delay and that no bail will be granted to the accused.

The Chief Secretary of Nagaland has assured financial assistance to the victim’s family.

The ZSUN expressed gratitude to the authorities for their timely response and to the public and leaders for their support in the call for justice.

The CSOs have made it clear that while they welcome the progress, they will continue to monitor the case closely to ensure that justice is delivered without compromise.
