The Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) has set an ultimatum for the state government to deliver justice in the Pimla murder case by October 9, warning that intensified and “non-peaceful” agitations will follow if the demand is not met.

ZYON president R. John Zeliang, speaking at a press conference at Hotel Saramati, Dimapur, said the organisation had “exhausted all peaceful and democratic means” to push the case forward but had only been met with “government negligence.”

He recalled that a rally was held in Dimapur on August 25 where a 15-day ultimatum had already been served. “There was no response,” he said, warning that this time there would be no extension if the government failed to make public the identity of the culprit and ensure justice.

Pointing to lapses in the investigation, John alleged that the forensic science laboratory (FSL) report, reportedly ready, remained unopened due to the absence of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) member. He also highlighted the lack of forensic and polygraph facilities in Nagaland. “The people of Nagaland deserve justice, modern facilities and a responsive government,” he asserted.

Backing the campaign, Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation Nagaland president Apeuna Iheilung thanked students and supporters for joining the cause. “We speak for the women, for their security and for justice for the death of our sister,” she said, urging women and mothers across Nagaland to stand united.

Meanwhile, Zeliang Youth Organisation Dimapur president Idizeung questioned whether the delay was due to the victim’s community background or lack of political influence. “Why are our elected leaders inactive? This is not just a Zeliangrong case. We are fighting so this kind of incident does not recur,” he said.

ZYON and allied organisations announced that if the state government fails to act within the stipulated time, intensified protests will begin in Peren district from October 10. (With inputs from Eastern Mirror)
