Guwahati, 14 April (MTNews): Prime Minister Modi on his visit to Guwahati today ahead of a historic Bihu celebration left no stone unturned to take shots at its biggest rival, the Congress. According to PM Modi, whenever he talks about the development of the Northeast over the last nine years, “some people get disturbed because they can’t claim credit for the growth in the state.”

“They complain that they, too, ruled the country for decades. Power and credit-hungry leaders, whose only ambition is to lord over the country, have done much damage to our people,” the PM added.

PM Modi also targeted the Opposition, stating, “Instead of catering to a particular vote bank, we are focused on reducing the difficulties of the people of the country. We want to ensure that our sisters do not have to travel far for treatment”.

The Prime Minister was in Guwahati inaugurating the first All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the northeast region on Friday along with three additional medical colleges in Assam.

Atmosphere of mistrust in the Northeast is going away

The Prime Minister also said that “the atmosphere of mistrust in the Northeast is going away” and that the “distance between the hearts” is disappearing because of the efforts of the NDA government.

“Today there is permanent peace everywhere in the Northeast. Many youths have left the path of violence and started walking on the path of development,” he claimed. PM Modi also suggested that in order to build a developed India, the environment of trust should increase further and take it far and wide.

Emphasis on rail-road and air connectivity in NE for tourism

Observing that the dialogue of different cultures of the country is also taking place through tourism, PM Modi said that wherever tourists go, they not only spend money there, but also take the culture of that place with them in their memories.

“But in the absence of physical connectivity in the Northeast, how could different cultures connect? That’s why our emphasis is also on rail-road and air connectivity,” he said.

He further continued how in the last 9 years, connectivity has been expanded at a rapid pace “to those people who remained disconnected for a long time.”

“Today most of the villages in the Northeast are also connected by all-weather roads,” he said, adding that in the last 9 years, many new airports have been built in the Northeast with commercial flights landing for the first time.

“Doubling of rail lines will provide easy connectivity to Assam as well as Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland,” PM added, saying that 5 projects in Northeast have been taken up simultaneously and that more than 6 thousand crore rupees have been invested in them.

“These are going to accelerate the development of a large part of the Northeast including Assam,” he added.
