Gandhi further said that his visit to Manipur left him deeply disheartened as he observed the division within the state.
“I went to Manipur and couldn’t believe what I saw there, they have destroyed the idea of Manipur, it has become two states. People have died, and women have been killed. PM is worried about Israel, but he is not worried about Manipur. I fail to understand why PM didn’t visit Manipur,” Gandhi said.
The Congress leader also took a dig at the national media, suggesting that it prioritizes Middle East affairs over domestic issues, particularly those affecting Manipur.
In addition to criticizing the central government, Rahul Gandhi directed his critique towards the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF). He accused the party of failing to bring development and employment opportunities to the state, leading to a rise in drug abuse among the youth and an uncertain future for many. This was reported by The Print.
As the state gears up for the upcoming elections to the 40-member Assembly scheduled for 7 November, the political landscape in Mizoram is buzzing with activity. The MNF, the ruling party, is confident about securing a second consecutive term and anticipates a “comfortable” victory, with the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) emerging as its primary rival.
However, according to The Deccan Herald, the Congress party, which lost its majority to the MNF in the 2018 elections, maintains that it is a strong contender in the race for power. Despite its 10-year rule from 2008 to 2018, the Congress was relegated to third place with just five MLAs in the previous elections.
