Deceased passengers identified, three accused taken into police custody
Following the fatal accident that happened in K Station village of Tseminyu district this morning, where eight young lives were lost, the Tseminyu Police has released a report shedding light on the tragic accident and its aftermath.
Revealing the findings of its investigation, Tseminyu Police in its report said that a suo-motto case was registered and that three individuals have been arrested and placed in their custody for further interrogation and investigation. It was also revealed that the deceased bodies were handed over to their family members after observing all legal formalities.
Narrating the sequence of events, Tseminyu Police said that the Police Station Tseminyu received information from the locals of K Station Village at approximately 07:55 AM regarding a collision between two vehicles.
“Fearing fatalities, DEF Wokha was requested to dispatch a recovery van and SRDF personnel from Wokha to respond to the situation. Immediately, a police team, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC), SDPO, and Additional SP, rushed to the scene after arranging for a JCB and an ambulance,” the report said.
Tseminyu Police said that, upon arrival at the scene, it was observed that one LP truck with registration number AS-096-6187, heading from Merapani to Kohima while carrying sand, had collided with a passenger Sumo with registration number NL-02T 2124, traveling from Kohima to Mokokchung, at K Station area.
“The impact of the collision caused the passenger Sumo to be dragged along the highway for some distance before it fell off the highway, plummeting several feet below and crushing the Sumo. The LP truck, laden with sand, had completely crushed the passenger Sumo, trapping all the passengers inside,” Tseminyu Police reported.
An immediate rescue operation was initiated by the police, with assistance from local residents. During the rescue efforts, one passenger named Imlienla was found alive, Tseminyu Police said. “She was painstakingly extracted from the debris and rushed to Kohima in an ambulance for urgent medical treatment. Sadly, despite all efforts, she succumbed to her injuries while en route to Kohima,” it added.
As the rescue operation continued, the bodies of six other passengers and that of the Sumo’s driver were discovered at approximately 11:00 AM at the accident site. “Unfortunately, all of them were found to be deceased, bringing the total number of fatalities to eight,” the Tseminyu Police report said.

Further, the Tseminyu Police also released the details of the deceased passengers. It also mentioned that the following three occupants of the truck, the accused in the case, were arrested:

2. Nituraj Gogoi (Handy Man) S/O: Dhiren Gogoi P/O. Badulipura District: Golaghat

Nagaland CM condoles, announces ex-gratia
Meanwhile, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio extended his condolences to the bereaved families and also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the deceased.

Taking to X, Rio said, “I am deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Tseminyu district where eight precious lives have been lost. The State Govt is providing all necessary assistance and ex-gratia of Rs 2.00 lakh each for the deceased. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
