Poswuyi Swuro, the last surviving link to the legendary Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Nagaland, passed away today at 4:03 PM at his residence in Ruzazho village. He was believed to be around 110 years old.

Poswuyi Swuro

Swuro, a former village headman (DB) and Pastor of the Ruzazho Village Baptist Church, will be remembered for his crucial role in India’s freedom struggle. During his lifetime, Swuro was known for his service to both his community and the nation, but it was his role as Netaji’s interpreter during the freedom movement that cemented his place in history. Swuro played an instrumental role in assisting the Indian National Army (INA) during Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s visit to Nagaland, where he stayed in Ruzazho village for nine days.

His passing marks the end of an era, as Swuro was the last person alive to have witnessed the events surrounding Netaji’s visit to the region. His quiet dedication and humble service have made him a revered figure in both his village and in the broader context of Nagaland’s connection to India’s struggle for independence.
