The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, will present the prestigious Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards at a national event organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on 17 July 2025. Union Minister Manohar Lal and MoS Tokhan Sahu will also attend the ceremony.
Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 is the 9th edition of the world’s largest urban cleanliness survey, celebrating the remarkable efforts made under the Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban (SBM-U). This year, 78 awards across four categories will be conferred: (a) Super Swachh League Cities, (b) Top 3 clean cities in five population-based categories, (c) Special Category Awards for Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, SafaiMitra Suraksha and Mahakumbh, and (d) State Level Awards for Promising Clean City of State/UT.
The 2024-25 assessment adopted a smart and structured approach using 10 parameters and 54 indicators to evaluate cleanliness and urban service delivery. The campaign reached over 14 crore citizens via face-to-face surveys, MyGov, Swachhata App, and social media.
Over 3,000 assessors conducted field assessments across more than 11 lakh households in 4,500+ cities over 45 days. This year’s theme—”Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”—promoted sustainability, while the newly introduced Super Swachh League (SSL) created a competitive tier of top-performing cities.
For the first time, cities were divided into five population-based categories, ensuring fair evaluation tailored to each city’s scale and challenges. This allows even small cities to be recognized for outstanding progress in sanitation.
The ministry said that Swachh Survekshan , a landmark initiative under the SBM-U, has become a defining force in urban India’s journey toward cleanliness capturing hearts, shaping mindsets, and inspiring action for the last nine years.
Starting with 73 ULBs in 2016, the latest edition now encompasses more than 4,500 cities. This year, the awards not only celebrate the top Swachh Shehar but also recognise and encourage small cities showing strong promise and progress, it added.
