Mokokchung, October 21 (MTNews): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and state BJP Legislature Party leader Y Patton on Friday confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Nagaland on October 28. He said this while inaugurating an approach road to St. Joseph University, Chümoukedima.
He also mentioned that the PM will be in Nagaland for a few hours and shall address a rally at IG Stadium, Kohima on the scheduled day. He also informed that the state government is fully geared up for the visit. As reported earlier, PM Modi is reported to visit Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh on October 27-28.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Nagaland Women Organization (ENWO) has announced a public rally in Tuensang district on October 25th, just ahead of PM Modi’s proposed visit to Nagaland, in support of ENPO’s demand for Frontier Nagaland state.
According to a Northeast Live report, the rally will begin at 10:00 a.m. and all educational and commercial establishments will remain closed during the rally. It was further informed that the rally will be attended by all seven federating units affiliated with ENWO and ENPO.
State Govt facilitating Centre-ENPO meet: Rio
Furthermore, it is learnt that the government of Nagaland is facilitating a meeting between the union government and the ENPO amid the growing demand of the latter for Frontier Nagaland state. Speaking to Northeast Live on the sidelines of an event in Kohima on Friday, Nagaland Chief Minister Rio said, “We are talking with them… and we will also give an appointment for ENPO to meet the Home Minister, and if the Prime Minister also comes, we will make a request.”
“Nagas, we speak our minds, and it’s not wrong for them to speak what they think and what they desire but all these issues will be resolved,” Rio added.
Regarding the meeting with the Home Minister, CM Rio stated that a date will be scheduled soon.
When asked about the Hornbill Festival 2022, in which the ENPO has declared not to participate, the chief minister stated that the festival will take place and that everyone should attend.
It may be noted that the ENPO has reportedly resolved to demand the resignation of the 20 Eastern Nagaland legislators from the state Legislative Assembly if the government of India does not provide an early resolution on its Frontier Nagaland statehood demand.
Furthermore, ENPO has also asked its constituents to refrain from participating in any election campaigns or undertake candidate declaration programs in their respective jurisdictions.
