Chare, 16 August (MTNews): The School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) of Government High School, Chare, along with concerned citizens from Chare Town and adjacent areas, have taken a decisive step in seeking redressal for the “deteriorated, uncivilized road conditions” that have been plaguing the region.

Under the banner of “Project Constitutional Justice,” a formal complaint was submitted on 14 August, 2023 to the office of the Executive Engineer, Roads & Bridges (R&B), Public Works Department (PWD), Tuensang, Government of Nagaland.

“The deplorable state of roads in Chare Town and the surrounding regions has become a matter of increasing concern for both commuters and residents alike. Potholes, uneven surfaces, and inadequate maintenance have hindered smooth transportation, leading to inconvenience and safety hazards. Students, in particular, have been severely impacted, as they struggle to reach Government High School, Chare, due to the perilous road conditions,” an update said.

In an effort to address this pressing issue, representatives from the SMDC, Government High School, Chare, joined hands with proactive citizens to initiate “Project Constitutional Justice.” This project aims to utilize legal means to ensure the fundamental rights of every citizen in the most inaccessible, backward “Eastern Nagaland”.

The formal complaint, submitted to the office of the Executive Engineer (R&B), PWD, Government of Nagaland, highlights the urgency of the situation and calls for immediate action to rectify the road conditions in Chare Town and its adjoining areas. The complainants asserted that the inadequate road infrastructure not only impedes daily life but also poses risks to public safety and well-being thereby severely violating constitutional rights of the people in the region.

“We are no longer willing to endure the hardships caused by the state of our roads. We believe in the power of our constitution, and that’s why we are seeking justice through this project. The right to safe and accessible roads is a basic right, and we are determined to see it upheld,” stated a spokesperson for the group of concerned citizens.

Local authorities have acknowledged the receipt of the complaint and have assured that the matter will be taken into serious consideration.

As the wheels of justice begin to turn, the residents of Chare Town and the surrounding areas are hopeful that “Project Constitutional Justice” will lead to a positive transformation in their road infrastructure. The unity displayed by the SMDC, Government High School, CHARE, and the concerned citizens is a testament to their determination to uphold their rights and ensure a better quality of life for all.
