The 17th Saramati Soccer Championship 2025, organised by the Saramati Nexus Club, was held under the theme “Together We Burgeon the Game” from December 10 to 17 at Pungro in Kiphire district, drawing teams, officials and spectators from across the region.

The inaugural programme was graced by Tsupithong, Economics and Statistics Officer from the Department of School Education, Government of Nagaland, as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he encouraged youth to dream big through sports and said sportsmanship holds significant value for the present generation. He also urged elders and leaders of the Pungro area to extend cooperation and guidance to help young players achieve excellence. The opening session began with an invocation by Chipong, Pastor of UPC, followed by a special song by Tsuyola, after which the championship was declared open.

Saramati Nexus Club president Adilen Yimkhiung, in his presidential address, said the championship has grown into a strong community movement that nurtures young talent and promotes unity, discipline and teamwork.

The closing ceremony was attended by Chipong, President of the Pungro Sub Division Timber Traders Union, as special guest, while K B Darjee, Assistant Commandant of Assam Rifles, encouraged youth to consider careers in the security forces.

In the final, defending champions Pujenvong FC defeated Phuvle FC 4 to 1 to retain the title. Varude won the Golden Glove, Azikha Augustine secured the Golden Boot, and Aaron was named Player of the Tournament.
