Kohima, 21 March (MTNews): In order to enhance the tourism sector, a ‘Letter of Intent’ (LoI) was signed between the Department of Tourism Nagaland and Hotel Polo Towers Pvt. Ltd, Polo Grounds, Shillong and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Nagaland Governor La Ganesan informed today.

 

According to the Governor, the LoI with Hotel Polo Towers Pvt. Ltd, Polo Grounds, Shillong is for the re-development of Kohima Tourist Lodge into Star Category Hotel while with IRCTC, it is for opening budget hotels in the State capital.

 

He said that the department also envisages taking up various capacity building programs for tourism stakeholders/unemployed youths by collaborating with Tata Consultancy Services and Verna Jyoti Educare as knowledge and learning partners.

 

He also added that the Government has identified the ropeway project under the Parvatmala Program for urban decongestion.

 

Meanwhile, he informed that the tourism department has also initiated ‘Nagaland Off-Road,’ a first-of-its-kind travel experience in the world of adventure travel as a niche tourism product in collaboration with Wonder Beyond Boundary (WBB).

 

Stating that the 23rd edition of Hornbill Festival registered 1,40,299 tourists, the Governor said that the State, endowed with beautiful landscape, colourful and vibrant culture, has the potential to become one of the most sought-after tourist destinations of the country, and that the department continues taking various initiatives towards this end.
