Mokokchung, July 28 (MTNews): The Election Commission of India has begun the process of enacting the necessary changes for the preparation/revision of the electoral rolls of Assembly/Parliamentary Constituency in accordance with the legal amendments made to Section 14(b) of the RP Act 1950 and subsequent modifications to the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.

 

The Election Commission of India (ECI), headed by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey, has announced that 17 and older individuals will no longer need to wait until they turn 18 on January 1 of each year in order to apply in advance to have their names added to the voter’s list.
They have also asked the CEOs/EROs/AEROs of all States to develop tech-enabled solutions to allow youth to file advance applications with reference to three subsequent qualifying dates, namely 1st April, 1st July, and 1st October, rather than only 1st January.

 

The Electoral Roll will also be updated quarterly, and eligible children can be registered in the following quarter of the year after reaching the qualifying age of 18 years. After registering, he or she will be given an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC).

 

For the current round of annual revision of the electoral roll, 2023, any citizen turning 18 on April 1, July 1, or October 1 of that year can also submit an advance application for registration as a voter from the date of draft publication of the electoral roll.
