Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) chairman Obed Quinker today inaugurated a Quality Stock Bee Multiplication Centre at Lozaphuhü village under Phek district.

Addressing the gathering, Quinker elaborated on the broader mission of the NBHM and the interest and vision of the Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio to boost the beekeeping industry in Nagaland.

Presently, there are 9 established Quality Stock Bee Breeding Centres in Nagaland, and Lozaphuhü is the lone village in Phek district selected for this prestigious initiative.

Quinker called upon the villagers to utilize the centre diligently, aligning with the aspirations of the state government to transform beekeeping into a vibrant sector.

Further, he urged the community to conserve and make efficient use of the region’s abundant natural resources, which are ideally suited for beekeeping.

Also speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, Nagaland’s New & Renewable Energy & NSDMA Advisor Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, expressed that the establishment of the bee multiplication centre was a proud achievement not only for Lozaphuhü village but for the entire Phek District.

He acknowledged the vision of the Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, under whose leadership various developmental sectors, including agriculture and allied activities, are being scaled up.

Nyuthe encouraged local beekeepers to make the most of this opportunity, stressing that such initiatives would greatly enhance agricultural productivity and livelihood opportunities in rural areas.

Phek deputy commissioner Rhosietho Nguori underscored the economic and ecological benefits that the new bee breeding centre will bring to the local farming community.

He urged the villagers to actively engage with the Centre and utilize its facilities to their full potential for sustainable development.

Er Khuvoyi Vese, Deputy Team Leader NBHM and District In-Charge for Phek highlighted the vital role of bees in maintaining ecological balance and enhancing agricultural productivity through pollination.

Er Vese emphasized the objectives behind establishing the Quality Stock Bee Multiplication Centre, stating that the facility will play a crucial role in producing high-quality bee colonies and encouraging scientific beekeeping practices in the district.

He also acknowledged the strong support from the State Government, which continues to prioritize sustainable practices and ecosystem services through beekeeping initiatives.

Meanwhile, Shevotsieyi, representing the Village Beekeeping Committee of Lozaphuhü, acknowledged the consistent support and guidance provided by NBHM in promoting scientific beekeeping practices, and appreciated their continued partnership in empowering local beekeepers and enhancing livelihoods.
