The 45th edition of the Annual Sports and Games of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School (QMHSS), Mokokchung, was formally inaugurated today with a spirited guard of honour and parade presented by the school’s NCC cadets. The ceremonial march marked the official opening of the four-day event and paid tribute to the dignitaries in attendance.

The event, held from April 9 to 12, features participation from around 1300 students across Classes 4 to 12, divided into four houses. A wide array of athletic and sporting events are set to unfold over the next four days, fostering healthy competition and camaraderie among the students.

Gracing the occasion as the special guest, Chairman of the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), Imkongchuba, addressed the gathering and encouraged the students to engage wholeheartedly in all school activities. “What we do today are memories of tomorrow,” he said, highlighting the lasting value of student experiences.

He further emphasized the transformative role of sports in society. He said sports bring a positive change and help bridge the gap between communities, building togetherness, brotherhood, unity, understanding, and peace.

In his concluding remarks, Imkongchuba urged all athletes to uphold the spirit of true sportsmanship and harness the power of sports to build a more united and peaceful society.
