The Radio Kisan Diwas 2025 celebration was held in Kubolong town, Mokokchung, on February 15, organized by Akashvani Mokokchung in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Mokokchung. The event highlighted the role of radio in agricultural awareness and addressed key issues affecting farmers.
Habemo Ngullie, Programme Executive, Akashvani Mokokchung, in his keynote address emphasized the significance of Kisan Vani Diwas, recognizing farmers’ contributions and amplifying their voices. He highlighted agriculture’s role in the economy and the need to bridge communication gaps between policymakers and farmers. Discussions included modern farming techniques, sustainable practices, and government policies supporting farmers’ welfare.
Dr. Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Mokokchung, spoke about the importance of soil and water management in farming. He warned about high soil acidity in Mokokchung, which affects productivity, and stressed the need for sustainable farming. He encouraged natural farming practices and cited Chuchuyimlang’s success in eliminating herbicides and salt water for weed control. He also highlighted the availability of soil health cards and recommended Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) for collective farming, allowing farmers to access loans up to Rs 2 crore at a 3% interest rate.
Imo Jamir, Block Development Officer, Kobulong, highlighted Charan Singh’s role in farmers’ welfare, stressing the need for rural policies that focus on income generation. He urged farmers to participate in government schemes and share information for collective progress.
Meyatoshi Farmer, speaking on behalf of the farmers, stressed the importance of preserving traditional seedlings and adapting farming to local soil conditions.
The event also honored notable farmers for contributions to livestock and sustainable agriculture. Technical sessions covered livestock health, soil testing, and sustainable farming, with veterinary assistance and vegetable seedlings distributed to farmers.
