Opener Shikhar Mohan struck a brilliant double century as Jharkhand posted a commanding 510 for eight declared against Nagaland on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match at the JSCA International Stadium Complex, Ranchi, on Sunday.
Resuming from their overnight score of 91 for two, Jharkhand took full control of the innings through a superb 251-run third-wicket partnership between Shikhar and Virat Singh. Shikhar, who dominated the Nagaland bowling, scored 207 runs off 282 balls, hitting 21 fours and three sixes in a patient yet fluent knock.
Virat provided solid support with 105 before being dismissed by Jonathan R in the 77th over, caught by Tahmeed Rahman. Shikhar later added another 109 runs with wicketkeeper-batter Kumar Kushagra, who made 58. Tahmeed Rahman eventually dismissed Shikhar in the 95th over, ending a marathon innings that set the tone for Jharkhand’s massive total.
At the time of declaration, Robin Minz remained unbeaten on 75 from 31 balls, while Sushant Mishra was not out on 4. Jonathan R picked up three wickets for Nagaland, with Tahmeed Rahman and Imliwati Lemtur claiming two each, and Saurav S Kumar taking one.
In reply, Nagaland reached 37 without loss at stumps from 17 overs, trailing by 473 runs. Openers Sedezhalie Rupero (19 off 61 balls) and Dega Nischal (18 off 41 balls) held firm till the close of play, giving Nagaland a steady start to their first innings.
