Recreation Centre for Senior Citizen, an elderly housing facility, is situated just below the pensioners’ office in Mokokchung’s Dilong Ward.
Dr. Senkalong, a well-known Naga scientist who now resides in Canada, donated the property for the construction of an elderly home, which resulted in the opening of the Recreation Centre in 2005.
The District Pensioners’ Association, Mokokchung, built the structure with a minimal gift from the central government.
Nevertheless, despite being inaugurated in 2005, it wouldn’t start operating until 2015, when a social service organization overseen by District Pensioners’ Association, Mokokchung gained control of the undertaking.
The recreational center is presently wholly managed by the District Pensioners’ Association, Mokokchung which it has done so since 2019.
Mrs. Imola, a retired staff nurse from Sungratsü village who is 88 this year, is still actively in charge of overseeing the Recreation Center with the help of the district pensioners officials.
According to Tia Amri, president of the District Pensioner’s Association, Mokokchung, they have requested two cabins at the currently under construction Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital. With these cabins, the Pensioner Association hopes to provide an elderly patient with a well-appointed room furnished with amenities like non-slippery tiles, proper toilet, wheelchairs, elbow crutches, crutches, and walking sticks.
Tia also stated that they have a permanent nurse for the elderly and that the pensioners’ office takes care of all necessities.
“We occasionally hold medical camps where we give away free medication and let different doctors perform a medical examination on the participants,” Tia added.
In addition to receiving medical attention, the elderly congregate at the center every Friday at 10:00 a.m. to take part in Bible studies mentored by Rev. Luin.
Tia added that he is eagerly anticipating the completion of the building’s continuing ongoing extension works so that they can accommodate more elderlies, particularly those who require their care and assistance.
He continued, “There have been many unfortunate incidents involving many elders, such as their pension books being misused by their grandchildren; as a result, for those, the association intends to look after them until and unless those elders are free of such present risks.”
When the building construction is finished, which should be in about a year, he continued, “We shall be truly focused on these concerns.”
While stating that any donations from well-wishers are always appreciated, he also stated that anyone from Mokokchung is welcome to join the center without paying anything.
