Renedy Singh urges for more football training centers in North East | JJ Arena, a FIFA-grade turf to boost Nagaland football

Chumoukedima, 2 June (MTNews): JJ Arena, the first FIFA-grade football turf in Nagaland, was inaugurated at Seirhüza colony, Chumoukedima by Dr SC Jamir. During the inaugural program, Renedy Singh, President of the Football Players’ Association of India (FPAI) and former Captain of India football team, commended the JJ group and CEO Jungshi for their initiative in setting up the football turf. Singh urged the state authorities to establish more training centers to nurture the abundant football talent in the Northeast.

Singh highlighted the Northeast’s contribution to Indian football, mentioning that the region produces the highest number of players for the Indian Super League and I-League, with Manipur leading the way. However, he emphasized the need for more training academies within the region, stating that while there are 9 to 10 players from the Northeast representing the Indian national team, there is a lack of quality football academies in the region.

Singh specifically urged the JJ group to establish a sustainable training center, emphasizing that they are not looking for massive facilities like the European clubs, but rather a platform to groom the youth of Nagaland and tap into their potential. He expressed his hopes that JJ Arena would serve as a catalyst for the development of football in Nagaland.

Speaking to the media, CEO Jungshi outlined the vision of the JJ group, stating that they are an organization and facilitator in the sports and entertainment industry. He expressed the group’s willingness to collaborate with businesses in Nagaland and contribute to the professionalization of the sports sector. Jungshi mentioned that JJ Arena is just the beginning of their larger plans.

In a bid to encourage students to utilize the football turf, Jungshi announced a 20% discount for students who wish to avail the facility.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of prominent figures including Dr SC Jamir, the former Chief Minister of Nagaland, and C Apok Jamir, a former Nagaland MLA and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.
