Mokokchung, July 8 (MTNews): The Mokokchung Forest Division conducted a ceremonial plantation at 75 Nagar Van and 75 additional plantation sites as part of the Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav during the Hariyali Saptah celebration by the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, New Delhi, on July 8, 2022.
Dr. Sentitula, IFS, DFO, while observing the event at the Marep Forest Park, which was also a part of the celebration of the chosen sites representing the state of Nagaland, explained that the Van Mahotsav, a forest festival, is the nation’s annual planting season and that the initiative of ceremonial planting in 75 Nagar van and 75 other plantation sites nationwide is the journey towards “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,” which coincides with ‘Hariyali Saptah.’
She further stated that, with the active participation from all sections of society in the district, mass plantation has been carried out and is still carrying on with replacement plantation. With a focus on “Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature,” the district has witnessed and understood the reality of global change and its implications for humans and all other living things, she said, while stating that tree planting initiatives are carried out by the communities and join hands with the global community in “restoring and safeguarding our mother earth.”
The dignitaries witnessing the ceremonial plantations were Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Aotula Imchen IPS, Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung and the officers and staffs of the Mokokchung Forest Division along with the Nagaland Development Outreach NGO who is also a part of Nagaland Forest Management Project.
