The fourth season of the 35+ Mokokchung Football League (MFL) concluded with a grand closing ceremony at P Shilu Park on Saturday, marking Revenant FC’s fourth consecutive championship victory.

The ceremony was honored by Col Rahul Gurung, Commandant of 12 Assam Rifles, who graced the event as the Guest of Honour. The 35+ Mokokchung Football League, formerly known as the “Mokokchung Friday League,” was established in 2022 and boasts 6 teams with approximately 130 members, including coaches and team managers. Not affiliated with any sports associations or federations, the league is an embodiment of the passion and dedication of the game’s senior players.
In his speech, Col Gurung commended the initiative of the senior players, praising their commitment to fostering brotherhood, fitness, and the spirit of good sportsmanship. Zulu Aier and Aongsen Aier, both senior players, shared their experiences and encouraged aspiring players to strive for excellence in the future.
Earlier, before the championship crowning and closing ceremony, the final matches of the season were played at Imkongmeren Sports Complex.
During the championship crowning, several individual awards were also presented:
Fair Play Award: Revenant FC
Best Goalkeeper: Tiasunep, Terokroker FC
Best Defender: Joythy Pongen, Wasang FC
Highest Goal Scorer: Rongsenchiba, Revenant (11 goals)
Player of the Tournament: Nokchashilu, Revenant
The final matches of the season ended on a high note for Revenant FC while it also resulted in reshuffling the points table.
In the first match of the season’s last match day, Trebuchet FC and Senso FC concluded their campaigns with a 3-3 draw, ending with 14 and 2 points respectively. Trebuchet FC clinched the 4th position overall, while Senso FC ended the season at the bottom. Despite Trebuchet FC taking an early lead with a 16th-minute goal, Senso FC responded swiftly, equalizing in the 19th minute.
Senso FC built momentum with two rapid goals in the 27th and 31st minutes. For once, it looked like they were going to register first and only win for the season but Trebuchet FC made a strong comeback, leveling the score in the 40th and 42nd minutes. Senso FC, unfortunately, became the only team in the season to go winless.
In the day’s second fixture, Wasang FC secured a crucial 4-2 victory against New Ecclesia FC, propelling them to second place in the points table. This win allowed them to surpass Terokroker FC, finishing behind the champions Revenant FC. Chubayanger and Jamonger scored one goal each, while Repa netted a brace for Wasang FC. Moatemsu notched both goals for New Ecclesia FC, who secured the 5th position in the table.
In the last match of the season, league leaders Revenant FC dominated Terokroker FC with a convincing 5-1 victory, maintaining their unbeaten record for the season. Terokroker FC, initially in second place, slipped to third after the defeat. Wasang FC’s earlier triumph over New Ecclesia FC allowed them to claim the second position. Moakaba, Rongsenchiba, and Aoluin contributed a goal each for Revenant FC, while Temsutoshi added a brace. Tiawati scored the lone consolation goal for Terokroker FC.
