Shamator, March 4 (MTNews): Shamator was formally inaugurated as a district of Nagaland by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, today at Public Ground, Shamator.

 

Speaking as the special guest, Rio stated that the creation of Shamator district faced some complications. He urged the gathering to put behind the past misunderstandings and to reconcile and coexist peacefully. He also expressed appreciation to the leaders for coming together and working out the differences. The Chief Minister suggested that Shamator district be called the “brotherhood district”.

 

The Chief Minister said that to move forward, top priority should be given to better road connectivity. He spoke on the road projects taking place in the district under PMGSY and the two-laning of NH-202. Rio informed that a proposal called Trans-National Highway, connecting Showuba, Dimapur to Pangsha, Noklak via Chessore and Shamator, has been forwarded to the Central Government and added that a cooperative bank will be set up at Chessore. With the district having tourism potential, he urged the people to come up with a tourist map.

 

The Chief Minister called on the gathering to maintain a peaceful and harmonious environment for the society to move forward. He also urged them to do away with land disputes, and instead provide land to the Government for development purposes.

 

Host and Advisor, IPR and Village Guards, S Keoshu Yimkhiung urged the people to coexist peacefully with everyone for mutual benefit. He added that society will move forward when peace exists.

 

DC Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant assured of the support and cooperation of the people of Tuensang adding that it will be like a parent to Shamator district. DC Shamator, Thsüvisie Phoji, gave a brief profile of Shamator district where he highlighted that the district has a population of 34,223 (2011 census) and has a literacy rate of 68.79%. Commissioner, Nagaland, Rovilatuo Mor, shed light on the journey in the creation of the district.

 

Speeches were also delivered by President CKS, Nungsanglemba; Züngküm, ex-minister and Minister Agriculture & co-operation, G. Kaito Aye.
President, Yimkhiung Tribal Council, Throngsa Yimkhiung delivered the welcome address while a vote of thanks was proposed by General Secretary, Tikhir Tribal Council, W Tothong Philip.

 

Special numbers were presented by T. Tali Tikhir and Toshi Yimkhiung. Executive Secretary, Yimkhiung Baptist Boru Amukhongto, Dr. S.J. Akhum, pronounced the dedicatory prayer.
Cultural presentations were presented by Sukiur ‘B’ (Sumi), Shiponger Village, Yakor Village, Pungro Village, Shamator Village, Anatongre Village, and Wapher Village troupes.

 

The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of the DC complex and Village Guards Training Center, Shamator. He was accompanied by Minister, Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu; Minister, Housing and Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum; Advisor, Printing & Stationery, H Haiying; DGP Nagaland, T John Longkumer, and other senior government officials.
