Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton met Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal in New Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the development of inland waterways and related infrastructure in Nagaland.
During the meeting, the leaders explored opportunities to strengthen inland waterways, improve connectivity and create new avenues for economic development in the state.
Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Rio said the discussions focused on developing inland waterways to enhance connectivity and support economic growth in Nagaland.
Sonowal said the meeting centred on strengthening inland waterways and allied Inland Water Transport (IWT) infrastructure in the state to promote connectivity, commerce and regional prosperity.
“Under the PM Modi-led government, India remains unwavering in its commitment to the holistic development of our Ashtalakshmi States through world-class infrastructure and inclusive growth,” Sonowal said.
The meeting comes as the Centre continues to promote inland waterways as an alternative mode of transport to improve connectivity, facilitate trade and support regional development across the North East.
