As the state celebrated 60 years of statehood with notable respect accorded to former parliamentarians, the Rising People’s Party (RPP) has urged the government to extend similar regard to the state’s jawans, who will soon be deployed to Jharkhand and Maharashtra for election duties in November 2024.
Reflecting on the treatment of security personnel during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, RPP criticized the state government’s conduct, calling it “dishonourable.” According to RPP, “Our jawans who crisscrossed the entire country in the utterly unbearable Indian summer were paid the paltry amount of Rs. 550/- as TA/DA, with some even losing their lives due to heatstroke.”
The party called on the NDPP-BJP Coalition not to repeat “such mistakes” and urged the government to “show magnanimity by addressing the harsh realities of a jawan’s life, particularly the low TA/DA for outside duty.”
The RPP proposed increasing the daily allowance to a minimum of Rs 1,000 per jawan at the minimum. “Such a gesture would send a strong message that Nagaland is indeed a mature state having the heart and gratitude for our jawans who have been rendering their selfless services for the state and the country,” RPP stated.
