The Union Minister of Communications and Minister for Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Jyotiraditya Scindia, on Tuesday chaired a press meet marking the curtain raiser for the Rising North East Investor Summit 2025. The event aims to showcase investment potential across the eight Northeastern states, often referred to as “Ashta Lakshmi.”
The press meet was attended by Minister of State for DoNER Sukanta Majumdar, Secretary of DoNER Chanchal Kumar, ADG of PIB Manisha Verma, Statistical Advisor Dharmvir Jha, and other senior officials from the Ministry.
Welcoming the media, Scindia said, ”The greatest potential for India in the future lies in our wonderful Northeastern region. The summit will celebrate our eight Northeastern states, which stand at the heart of the transformative growth our country represents.”
He underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to make the region a pivot of national development under Viksit Bharat 2047, highlighting significant budgetary support, tax devolution, and private sector involvement in the region. ”The Northeast, once seen as India’s periphery, is now the center of India’s growth story,” he said.
Referring to the region’s cultural richness, natural resources, and strategic geography, Scindia called the Northeast ”the most powerful gateway in the world to Southeast Asia.” He emphasized a decade of focused investment in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and digital connectivity that has prepared the region to rise as an economic power.
“The Northeast is not waiting for the future — it is building it,” he remarked, inviting stakeholders to witness a ”new era of prosperity” for the region and beyond. He also announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consented to attend the summit.
Rs 1 lakh crore investment proposals already pledged
During the event, Secretary of DoNER, Chanchal Kumar, shared an overview of the investment potential in all eight Northeastern states. He noted that the Ministry had organized investor roadshows across major Indian cities — including Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, and New Delhi — to promote the summit.
The Ministry’s pre-summit efforts have already attracted investment proposals worth over Rs 1 lakh crore, Kumar informed. A high-level Ambassadors’ Meet, co-hosted with the Ministry of External Affairs on April 15 at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, drew participation from over 75 countries, indicating growing global interest in the region.
Multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and Letters of Intent have been signed ahead of the summit, reflecting strong investor confidence.
