Run 4 Green Dimapur sparks unified call for a cleaner, greener tomorrow

The Run 4 Green Dimapur Culmination Programme was held at the DMC Office, Dimapur, marking the conclusion of the marathon aimed at promoting environmental awareness and cleaner air.

The event brought together officials from the Dimapur Municipal Council, District Administration, Dimapur Development Authority, Department of Environment and Climate Change, Nagaland Pollution Control Board, the National Youth Climate Consortium, and partner NGOs including Team Better Dimapur, Can Youth, and Pro-Rural.

The programme was chaired by Lensanaro, and Thungchanbemo Tungoe, Chief Executive Officer, DMC, delivered the welcome address. Speaking at the event, Boka Rochill of the National Youth Climate Consortium described the marathon as the start of a transformative journey for the city. “Run4Green is not just a run, it is a new chapter and a new beginning to make Dimapur greener and healthier,” Rochill emphasized, highlighting the importance of community involvement, especially among youth, in building a sustainable future.

Short speeches were delivered by key figures, including L.H. Thangi Mannen, Director and Founding Member of Earth Alliance, Nagaland, who urged participants to take personal and collective responsibility for the environment. EAC Dimapur, Imlijungla Lemtur, also highlighted the unprecedented collaboration of multiple government agencies working together to make Dimapur greener. Yanathung Kithan, Member Secretary, NPCB, delivered a brief address emphasizing the importance of collective action.

The marathon concluded with 687 participants across categories. In the Open Men’s category, Abhishek Yadav won first place, with Prince Yadav as runner-up. In the Open Women’s category, Tsuchoi T. secured the top spot, followed by Songmo P. In the Junior Boys’ category, Chuimthang Zimik finished first, followed by Andan, while Supai S. topped the Junior Girls’ category, with Apong N. as runner-up. A vote of thanks was delivered by C. Thsapise Anar, expressing gratitude to all stakeholders, participants, and supporters.
