Kohima, 23 February (MTNews): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA from the 33 Suruhoto Assembly Constituency, S Toiho Yeptho, is set to become the next deputy speaker of the Nagaland Assembly, as he was the only candidate to file a nomination for the election scheduled on February 26.
The last date for withdrawal of candidature was Friday, and the process closed at 3 pm, according to Nagaland Assembly Secretary-in-charge, Khruohituonuo Rio.
Following the scrutiny of his documents, Yeptho was declared unopposed for the post, Rio confirmed.
He will assume the role of deputy speaker on February 26, the first day of the budget session, the official added.
The NCP has seven legislators in the 60-member assembly.
