An initiative called ‘Safai Apnao, Bimari Bhagao’ was launched at Mangkolemba, Mokokchung, on 12 July 2024. The intensive cleanliness drive, aligned with the Stop Diarrhoea campaign, took place at the ADC conference hall in Mangkolemba.
The meeting, chaired by ADC Mangkolemba, T Lankonsen Tsanglao, focused on the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MOHUA) under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban, which aims to achieve garbage-free status for all cities by 2026. Tsanglao emphasized the need for active participation from ward authorities, NGOs, and newly elected Mangkolemba town councilors to ensure the success of the initiative. He also instructed all line departments assigned with tasks to submit reports of actions taken during the drive.
Senior Medical Officer of Community Health Centre (CHC) Mangkolemba, Dr. Sentiyenla, provided insights into the causes of diarrhoea and suggested preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease. She stressed the importance of seeking timely medical treatment and advice from healthcare professionals. Additionally, she outlined the various activities planned by the Health and Family Welfare Department during the campaign period.
The meeting saw a significant turnout from various departments, including CDPO Mangkolemba, Mangkolemba town councilors, and representatives from PHED, SDAO, schools, MTSU, MALT, GBs, and ward chairmen.
The Safai Apnao Bimari Bhagao initiative emphasizes comprehensive interventions such as cleanliness drives, advocacy, and inter-departmental collaboration to be executed by all Urban Local Bodies. The primary goal is to promote cleanliness and combat diseases, a critical endeavor during the monsoon season. The drive will be carried out in two phases by various departments within the subdivisions from 15 July to 31 August 2024.
