Sumi Aphuyemi Games and Sports Association (SAGSA), Pughoboto Area, clinched the title of the 1st Intra-District U-23 Football Tournament after defeating Satakha Area Culture and Sports Association (SASCA) 4–1 in the final held on March 14 at the District Sports Council Ground, Zunheboto.

The tournament was organised by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) in collaboration with the Zunheboto District Football Association (ZDFA). Deputy Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and DPDB chairman Zunheboto, Toiho S. Yeptho, attended the closing programme as guest of honour.

Addressing the players, Yeptho encouraged young footballers to remain disciplined and committed to the sport, stating that football promotes teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship. Referring to international football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Maradona, he said their achievements demonstrate the value of dedication, hard work and passion for the game.

Yeptho also expressed hope that tournaments like this would help identify talented players from Zunheboto district who could compete in the Dr. T. Ao Trophy and represent the district at higher levels.

Altogether six teams from different areas of the district participated in the tournament. The champion received Rs 75,000 while the runner-up was awarded Rs 50,000. The two semi-finalists received Rs 25,000 each.

The programme was chaired by Tavinto K. Sumi. Invocation was pronounced by Itokato V. Chophi and a special number was presented by Hinoto Zhimo.
