Mokokchung, 25 March (MTNews): Salangtem Ward has resolved to unequivocally support the resolution of the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) adopted by its federal assembly on 15 March and to stand by it till the end.

 

The public of Salangtem Ward at an emergency public general meeting on Saturday, 25 March adopted this resolution to support the AWUMT.

 

It may be recalled that the AWUMT has on 15 March at a federal assembly represented by all the 18 wards resolved not to allow municipal election to be held in Mokokchung Town unless sections of the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 that infringes on rights given under Article 371A are deleted as demanded by the AWUMT, the Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP), and the Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF).

 

The AWUMT had further resolved not to allow anyone in the 18 wards of Mokokchung Town to file nomination if the State Government decides to hold the ULB election without necessary amendment as demanded.

 

The AWUMT adopted the resolutions on 15 March based on its joint representation submitted to the state government along with AKMWP and DUCCF to hold ULB elections at the earliest after amending the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001.
