Salangtem Ward has been crowned as the Best RRR (Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle) Center in Mokokchung, as part of the “Meri Life Mera Swachh Shehar” campaign under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0. The initiative, organized by the Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), reached its pinnacle on World Environment Day, celebrating the town’s commitment to a cleaner and greener environment.
Salangtem Ward, known for its proactive approach to waste management, emerged as the top contender among several participating wards in Mokokchung.
The “Meri Life Mera Swachh Shehar” campaign aimed to raise awareness and engage citizens in waste reduction, segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal practices. The initiative gained momentum through the initiative of the MMC where various wards and organizations opened RRR centers across the town.
The competition which was announced by the MMC witnessed enthusiastic participation from various wards and organizations across Mokokchung.
Sungkomen Ward, known for its active participation in various environmental initiatives, secured the second position. Meanwhile, Arkong Ward, with its dedicated efforts towards the initiative, clinched the third position.
The panel of judges assessed the wards based on 6 key criteria: The quantity of items collected; Citizen participation; Time management; Maintenance of the RRR centers; Participation of volunteers; and innovative ideas implemented in the RRR centers.
The Prize money for the winners was sponsored by ICICI Bank and SBI Bank.
Chumlamo Humtsoe, the ADC Mokokchung and Administrator MMC, appreciated all the participating wards for their participation and commended the winners for their exceptional performance. He emphasized the significance of community-driven initiatives in creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
