Kruse and Hekani Jakhalu created history last week when they became the first women to be elected to the state assembly since the state’s creation in 1963.

The NDPP candidate from Western Angami seat defeated Keneizhakho Nakhro, an independent candidate, by only seven votes.

The 56-year-old is the widow of late NDPP candidate Kevisekho Kruse who lost the 2018 elections. She had said that she wanted to fulfill the visions of her late husband.

Before joining politics, she had served the civil society including the Angami Women’s Organization and the Angami Public Organization in various capacities.
