The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has expressed deep concern through a letter addressed to the Commissioner and Secretary of School Education, Nagaland, regarding the prolonged vacancy of the Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO) at the Longkhim establishment.

According to reports, the position has remained unfilled for an extended period. Temporary officers who are nearing retirement are being assigned to the role, but they only report briefly and do not remain in the station. The last SDEO retired in December of last year, and no replacement has been appointed since then.

“The absence of a substantive officer has caused significant disruptions in the smooth functioning of schools and the educational administration in the region,” the letter stated.

The USSC highlighted that this vacancy has resulted in several administrative bottlenecks, affecting the timely implementation of educational policies and programs. Furthermore, the monitoring and evaluation of school performance have been severely hindered.
“We understand the challenges faced by the department in filling vacant posts. However, given the critical role of the SDEO in ensuring quality education, we urge you to prioritize filling this vacancy,” the letter continued.

The USSC requested immediate attention to the matter and urged the expedited process of addressing these concerns.
