Noida, 8 October (MTNews): The Nagaland team showcased a dominant performance as they defeated Madhya Pradesh with a resounding 3-0 victory in their inaugural match of the Santosh Trophy qualifying round, played atGreater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, this Sunday.

 

Sanyem Konyak opened the scoring for the Nagaland team in the 30th minute, setting the tone for their impressive display. In the 43rd minute, young winger Yhoto Lohe netted the second goal, bolstering Nagaland’s lead. This marked Yhoto Lohe’s debut goal in the senior category in a recognized AIFF tournament at the age of 20.

 

The second half saw midfielder Senenlo Kath adding a third goal in the 50th minute, sealing Nagaland’s deserved triumph.

 

Nagaland will face off against Jharkhand in their next league match scheduled for 10 October.

 

The Uttar Pradesh Football Sangh is hosting the qualifying round, with Nagaland placed in Group C alongside Manipur, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, and the host team, Uttar Pradesh.

The Nagaland team is under the guidance of Roko Angami as the coach, with Mughato Ayemi serving as the manager, Avar Danla as the assistant coach, and Zakielatuo Seletsu as the physiotherapist.

 

The final rounds of the 77th National Football Championships for the Santosh Trophy 2023-24 are slated to be held in Arunachal Pradesh. The exact dates for this prestigious event are yet to be announced by AIFF.
