The Southern Angami Public Organization (SAPO) has strongly condemned the “reprehensible act of aggression towards the President, CPO, and citizens, on the 13th Feb 2026, by the Maova village authority and its citizens,” calling it “an affront to our venerable cultural ethos.”

In a statement, SAPO described the incident as “odious” and said it “besmirches the noble values of our society.” The organization further addressed the Kuki community, cautioning that “such actions, representing an alien culture, will not be tolerated, as they imperil the very fabric of our society.”

The statement emphasized the historical peaceful coexistence of communities in the area: “It is imperative to recognize that Chakhroma citizens have coexisted peacefully with villages under our jurisdiction since time immemorial, with no legitimate grounds for insecurity.” SAPO highlighted that their developmental efforts “whether through legal ownership or purchase, have contributed to the rapid growth of Dimapur, Chumukedima, and Kohima districts.”

SAPO expressed support for the Angami Public Organization (APO), stating, “SAPO fully supports and endorses the statement issued by the Angami Public Organization (APO), commending their unwavering commitment to peaceful coexistence.”

The organization urged all communities to “respect the rightful owners of the land and eschew violence, opting instead for mutual respect, understanding, and harmony.” It suggested that “if Maova Kuki village feels insecure due to various developmental works carried out by the rightful landowners, they should freely relocate to any other secure place and live peacefully, rather than imposing their own rules of law in our land.”

SAPO also condemned the violent acts perpetrated during the incident: “The Kukis of Maova village not only threatened and physically assaulted the President of Chakhroma Public Organization (CPO), but also resorted to stone-pelting towards the district administration and citizens of Chakhroma, amounting to direct confrontation with government agencies and public organizations, which is unacceptable and condemned at the highest level.”

The organization called for dialogue and peaceful resolution, advocating that “constructive dialogue and relocation to a secure area, if necessary, [be used] to preserve our cherished tradition of peaceful coexistence.” SAPO reassured its readiness to intervene for peace: “The Southern Angami Public Organization stands poised to extend its utmost cooperation and assistance at any juncture to quell such belligerent tendencies within our Angami jurisdiction, thereby ensuring the perpetuation of peace and harmony.”

Concluding the statement, SAPO expressed hope that the incident would not be repeated, praying that “this aberrant incident will be the first and last, and that a conducive atmosphere will prevail, fostering concord and fraternal relations among all communities in the region.”

Er Tepul Hopovi, President, SAPO, and Tepungosa Sale, General Secretary, SAPO, were signatories to the statement.
