The Satellite Opioid Substitution Therapy (OST) program was officially launched today at the Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Ungma. The event, organized by the District AIDS Control and Prevention Units (DAPCU), Mokokchung, and sponsored by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), marks a significant step in addressing drug addiction and HIV prevention.
During the launch, Makshi Jamir, District Program Officer (DPO) of DAPCU, explained that OST is a treatment designed to help individuals avoid the dangers of illegal drug use. He said that OST provides a legal alternative to illicit drugs, reducing the risks associated with unknown substances and avoiding criminal prosecution. This therapy, part of the National AIDS Control Programme, aims to help individuals make better life decisions and avoid the severe withdrawal symptoms of opioid addiction.
Imtidongba Jamir, Tatar of the Village Council Ungma, expressed his gratitude to NSACS and DAPCU for their efforts and urged the PHC staff to serve the patients with dedication. The program also included a dedicatory prayer by T wati Longkumer, Pastor of Ungma Baptist Arogo, and a Vote of Thanks by Dr Moamongla, Ayush Medical Officer.
The launching event was attended by key stakeholders, including members of the Ungma Village Council, Ungma Baptist Church, DAPCU, Targeted Intervention, Mobile ICTC, and Care & Support Society, Mokokchung. Following the ceremony, OST clients were inducted into the treatment program at the Ungma PHC.
