Mokokchung, March 8 (MTNews): Elections for 13 Rajya Sabha seats spread across six states will be held on March 31 this year, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced.
The seats are unevenly spread across six states – five in Punjab, three in Kerala, two in Assam, and one each in Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, and Nagaland. “The term of office of 13 members of the Rajya Sabha elected from 6 States is due to expire on their retirement in April 2022,” the official statement read.

 

While members from Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland and Tripura are retiring on April 2, five members from Punjab are retiring on April 9.

 

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Kohima has announced the schedule for the election to fill the seat of the retiring member of the Council of States from Nagaland. Issue of Notifications will be on March 14, and the last date of making nominations is March 21. Scrutiny of Nominations will be on March 22 and the last date of withdrawal of candidatures will be March 24. Date of poll will be on March 31 from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the counting of votes will be at 5:00 PM. It was also informed that the date before which election shall be completed is April 2.
