The second edition of the Wokha Inter-School Sepaktakraw Tournament culminated at the Local Ground in Wokha, with Yanrenthung Humtsoe, Chairman of MSMEPCI, Wokha District, and President of the Wokha District Sports Association (WDSA), serving as the guest of honour during the closing ceremony.
In his address, Humtsoe celebrated the participation of schools and students, highlighting that Sepaktakraw is an agile sport that requires physical fitness. He informed the students that through their participation, they not only played a series of games but also upheld the age-old tradition of “unity through sports.” He expressed that their participation was a testament to hard work, a love for sports, and the values instilled during the two-day event. Humtsoe encouraged the students to continue participating in opportunities that come their way, to improve their skills, and to redefine themselves for the game.
He appreciated the WDSA for providing a platform for such a unique sport in the district and expressed his hope that they would elevate it to higher levels, bringing laurels to the district through their efforts. He also assured them of his support in promoting the sport to greater heights in the future.
The final matches were held in various categories: the senior boys’ category between Mount Sinai School Wokha and SMBHS Wokha, the senior girls’ category between Mount Carmel School Wokha and Cistus School Wokha, and the Under-14 boys’ category between SMBHS Wokha and Cistus School Wokha. The champions of the second edition were Mount Sinai School Wokha in the senior boys’ category, Mount Carmel School Wokha in the senior girls’ category, and SMBHS Wokha in the Under-14 boys’ category.
Humtsoe presented the cash prizes, running trophies, and certificates to the winners after a brief formal program chaired by Jonis R. Yanthan, Assistant Teacher at Mount Sinai School Wokha. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Chibenthung Kikon, Joint Secretary of WDSA, followed by a benediction prayer from Zuchanthung Ezung, Vice President of WDSA.
