The Sendenyu Youth Organization (SYO) has expressed “deep anguish and strongest condemnation” over the incident that occurred on the morning of 19th September 2025 at around 9:00 AM along Secretariat Road, Kohima.

According to the statement issued by the SYO, a Maruti 800 (Reg. No. AS-01-AF-0616), driven by “Mr. Samuel Kemp, S/O Mr. Gwatilo Kemp of Sendenyu Village, under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a two-wheeler, leaving a woman rider critically injured and battling for her life.”

The organization conveyed its solidarity, saying, “At the very outset, the SYO conveys its heartfelt sympathy, solidarity, and prayers to the victim and her family in this hour of immense pain and distress. We stand with them as they face the consequences of this reckless act.”

The SYO condemned the act as “unequivocally clear that driving under the influence of alcohol is a criminal act that endangers lives and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.” The statement described the incident as “a matter of grave irresponsibility and utter disregard for public safety, and such behavior is a stain on our society.” It urged that “the law must take its full and immediate course of action to ensure justice for the victim, accountability of the offender, and deterrence against future occurrences.”

Highlighting the broader issue of road safety, the SYO reiterated, “Public roads are not private playgrounds, and those who choose to recklessly violate safety norms must face strictest legal consequences. Road safety is a collective responsibility, and any individual who undermines it through drunken or rash driving directly threatens the lives of all commuters.”

The organization concluded by demanding that “the authorities deal with the matter with the seriousness and urgency it deserves.”

The statement was issued by Shahilo Semp, President, and Shagunlo Kent, General Secretary of the SYO.
