The Vice President of the Seyochung Village Students’ Union, on November 11, 2024, held two important meetings in Kohima to address pressing issues related to the village’s healthcare and education sectors.
The first meeting was with the Principal Director of Health and Family Welfare, where the Vice President discussed the urgent need to upgrade the Health and Wellness Center in Seyochung Village to a Primary Health Centre (PHC). With the village’s growing population and its considerable distance from the Sub-Divisional Headquarter, the Vice President stressed the importance of establishing a PHC to improve healthcare access. The Principal Director acknowledged the issue and assured the Vice President that the department would explore ways to support the initiative. However, he cited challenges such as limited funding and insufficient staffing that currently hinder immediate progress, but expressed a commitment to finding potential solutions.
Later in the day, the Vice President met with the Deputy Director of School Education to address concerns regarding Government High School in Seyochung. The Vice President highlighted a critical shortage of staff, including the Headmaster, Assistant Headmaster, and Science teacher, which has led to students being redirected to Government High School in Kiphire Town for enrollment. This has disappointed local families who had hoped their children could study closer to home. The Deputy Director emphasized the need for an active School Management and Development Committee (SMDC) to ensure the smooth functioning of the school and the involvement of the community. He assured the Vice President that the department is committed to resolving the staffing issues for the benefit of the students. The Seyochung Village Students’ Union expressed gratitude for the Deputy Director’s positive response and dedication to addressing the concerns.
