The SFS Football Academy inaugurated its 2nd Session on Saturday at the SFS School Auditorium, Medziphema, with Vizovor Liezietsu, President of the Football License Coaches of Kohima District (FLCoKD), attending as the special guest.

Liezietsu praised the academy for its dedication to football development in Nagaland. While it has nurtured young footballers for the past eight years, its official recognition in 2024 marks a major milestone.

He lauded the academy’s achievements, including its State Level Pre-Subroto cum Junior Football Tournament 2024 victory at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, and its national-level representation in Bangalore. Its recognition as the Best Academy of 2024 by the All India Football Federation (AIFF) further highlights its excellence.

Liezietsu credited the academy’s management and coaches for their commitment to grooming young footballers. He emphasized that discipline is a key trait of successful athletes, stating, “True respect is earned not just by skill but by discipline and character.”

He stressed that hard work, preparation, and perseverance are essential for success, adding that career opportunities in sports extend beyond playing professionally. He listed various roles, including strength and conditioning coach, sports psychologist, physiotherapist, manager, journalist, commentator, and analyst.

Sharing his personal journey, Liezietsu recounted balancing multiple responsibilities while training. He inspired students by mentioning his experiences, including representing India in the U-17 AFC World Cup Qualifying Round (2003-04), playing for Mohun Bagan AC and City Athletic Club Kolkata, and representing Nagaland in the Santosh Trophy five times.

He also highlighted the crucial role of parents in supporting young athletes, urging them to provide encouragement, financial support, and training opportunities while ensuring a balance between academics and sports.

Liezietsu remarked, “The government job market is saturated, but sports offer an alternative path with immense potential,” emphasizing the need for societal recognition of sports as a viable career.

He commended St. Francis De Sales School for its vision in establishing the academy, calling such initiatives vital for bridging the gap between talent and opportunity in Nagaland.

Earlier, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Nakho, Principal of SFS School, delivered the welcome address. Coach Ciu Zashümo outlined the academy’s achievements and future plans, while Coach Menovilie Talie led the programme.
