The Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, attended the opening ceremony of the Nagaland Darts Championship on 5th September 2025, organised by The Nagaland Darts Association (NDA), and praised the association’s efforts in promoting darts across the state.

As Chief Patron of the NDA, Longkumer acknowledged the support of entrepreneurs and commended the initiative in fostering a vibrant sports culture. He expressed confidence in the association’s potential and urged everyone to contribute to the state’s progress through sports while preserving Nagaland’s indigenous identity.
Highlighting opportunities in a globalised and digital world, Longkumer noted that Nagaland’s human resources have gained recognition beyond the state. He suggested inviting players from outside Nagaland to participate in tournaments, which would promote the sport, showcase the state, and provide local talents with valuable exposure.
The Speaker also emphasised the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, encouraging organisers to conduct events sustainably and in an environment-friendly manner, giving participants a global perspective. He highlighted government efforts to identify sporting talents across the state and called for grooming athletes with values while opening wider opportunities. On darts, he noted the skill of balance and coordination it requires and encouraged participants to pursue the sport with dedication and enthusiasm.
The NDA presented a Dartboard to their Chief Patron. Since its inception in 2012, the association has grown in strength and numbers, bringing laurels to the state in national championships and representing India internationally. NDA President David Angami highlighted the association’s achievements and activities. NDA currently has district partners in Kohima, Dimapur, and Zunheboto and aims to expand to all districts. The 7th edition of the tournament features 28 participants across various categories, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for darts in Nagaland.
