All tourist vehicles entering Sikkim must now carry a large garbage bag, according to an official order from the state’s Tourism and Civil Aviation Department. This decision aims to ensure community participation in achieving environmental sustainability.
Tour operators, travel agencies, and vehicle drivers are responsible for informing travelers about using garbage bags for waste disposal. Random checks will be conducted to ensure compliance, and any vehicle found violating the order will be penalized.
Officials stated that awareness campaigns are being conducted to educate tourists about waste management and environmental sustainability. Sikkim, India’s least populated state with over 600,000 residents, attracts more than 2 million visitors annually to its picturesque Himalayan destinations.
