The proposed sit-in protest by the 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP), which was scheduled to begin on July 9 at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, will now be limited to a one-day demonstration. This comes in response to an appeal made by the State Government, issued on Monday evening through the Office of the Chief Secretary.
In its official statement, the Government of Nagaland reiterated that the concerns raised by the 5 Tribes CoRRP have already been taken up for review. Referring to a meeting held on June 3, 2025—chaired by the deputy Chief minister (Home) and attended by representatives of the CoRRP and apex tribal bodies—the Government said it had conveyed its decision to refer the matter to the State Cabinet.
Following this, the Cabinet on June 12, 2025, agreed in principle to constitute a Commission to examine all aspects of the Reservation Policy in government employment. The statement added that the Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) Department is actively following up on the directives issued by the Cabinet.
“In light of the ongoing process, the Government appeals to the 5 Tribes CoRRP to refrain from proceeding with the planned agitation,” the statement read, reaffirming the State’s commitment to addressing the issue through proper institutional mechanisms.
Later in the evening, the 5 Tribes CoRRP issued a separate statement, confirming that it would honour the appeal made by the Government. However, it clarified that the sit-in protest scheduled for July 9 will go ahead but will now be limited to just one day.
“We expect the State Government to honour its commitment of sitting across the table once the Hon’ble Chief Minister returns to the state within this week,” the statement from the CoRRP read. “Failing which, the agitations will intensify.”
The 5 Tribes CoRRP has been calling for a review of the existing Reservation Policy, which it argues needs reassessment in light of present demographic and administrative realities.
