Flags off newly purchased vehicles for district SPs
Kohima, February 28 (MTNews): Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister, Y. Patton informed today that the investigation by SIT into the Oting incident is almost complete, pending a few documentations. He also said that the situation in the State has been largely peaceful, except for the Oting incident on 4th December 2021, for which he assured to provide justice to the innocent lives lost in that carnage.
Patton said this at the flagging off ceremony of newly purchased vehicles for District Superintendents of Police at Police Headquarters, Kohima today. He said that eleven new Mahindra Scorpios will be given to the District SPs and that procurement is under process for the remaining newly upgraded districts. While stating that mobility and quick response to any situation are some of the key functions of the Police Department, he expressed hope that with better vehicles now being provided to the SPs, they will lead form the front with alacrity and respond to any situation promptly.
Commending the Nagaland Police for the recent major seizure of smuggled gold of approximately 48 Kgs costing over Rs. 23 crores as per prevailing market rate and the improved detection of drugs, IMFL and contraband seizure being made by Nagaland Police as a special drive against ‘War on Drugs,’ Patton expressed hope that the fight against drugs and other contraband items will continue for the well-being of society and the younger generation. He also stated that miscreants should retrospect the incident and give back the keys before the situation escalates and gets out of hand. “AKM will not tolerate any such activities under its jurisdiction and assures that it will remain vigilant and pursue the issue until resolved,” AKM president Nungdokyanger Ao and general secretary Nekmi Longkumer said in the statement issued today.
Earlier, the Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang and its Road Coordination Committee (LTM-RCC) has also condemned the unidentified miscreants who took away the keys of machineries and vehicles operating in the construction of the Changtongya-Dikhu road on February 27 demanding ransom in return. LTM has consequently issued an ultimatum to the “unidentified miscreants” to return the keys on or before March 2, failing which LTM has warned to pursue the case till the end. It may be mentioned that LTM has declared Langpangkong range as “tax free zone” on November 20, 2021 which was reiterated on January 18, 2022.
