Mon, August 30 (MTNews): A six days Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) program on “Post Harvest and Value addition of Fruits and Vegetables” was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Mon from 22nd to 27th August 2022 in the KVK campus Aboi, Mon. The program was conducted in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad.

 

 

Key note address of the training was delivered by Dr. V. Akashe Zhimomi, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Mon. In his speech, he emphasised on post-harvest loses of fruits and vegetables and stressed on avoiding losses by converting it into value added products and make it available during off season and also to fetch higher prices. He also encouraged the participants to develop skills through this training to take up income generating activities.

 

During the week-long training program, the resource persons delivered lectures on scope and importance of post harvest management, causes of spoilage in fruits and vegetables, processing, packaging, different methods of preservation, etc. Hands-on practical sessions were also conducted where the participants were trained in preparing various value added products like jam, pickle, squash, juice, candy, etc. from fruits and vegetables.

 

Altogether 15 participants attended the training program. On completion of the training program, certificates were awarded to all the participants.
