The School Management Committee (SMC) of GMS Tesophenyu Upper would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) for its insightful decision on November 1, 2024, to amalgamate GMS Tesophenyu with Government High School Tesophenyu. This commendable initiative, under the esteemed leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri Neiphiu Rio, and Dr.KekhrielhoulieYhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, signifies a transformative step forward in enhancing the state’s educational landscape by prioritizing quality and fostering sustainable academic success.
Since its establishment on April 12, 1962, under the guidance of SDEO Tseminyu, and its subsequent elevation to GMS on August 28, 2008, GMS Tesophenyu Upper has played a pivotal role in the provision of elementary education in our region, achieving notable student enrollments through 2024. This success can be attributed to several key factors:
a. The village of Tesophenyu, recognized as the largest in the Rengma region.
b. The effective implementation of Centrally Sponsored Schemes, such as SarvaShikshaAbhiyan (SSA), SamagraShiksha—a comprehensive educational program, and the Nagaland Education Project-The Lighthouse (NECTAR), which have significantly strengthened both infrastructure and educational outcomes.
c. The exceptional contributions of our dedicated teaching staff, whose efforts have been recognized through numerous district and state-level awards.
The SMC takes great pride in these accomplishments and reaffirms its commitment to supporting the newly amalgamated institution as it transitions into GHS Tesophenyu.
Recommendations for Systemic Improvement
In pursuit of promoting equitable growth throughout Nagaland’s education sector, the SMC respectfully encourages the state government to consider the following measures:
1. The establishment or maintenance of a Government High School (Classes 1–10) in each Range/Group appropriately aligned with population density and enrollment figures, to optimize resource allocation effectively.
2. The creation of at least one Higher Secondary School per District/Block, offering integrated streams of Science, Commerce, and Arts through initiatives led by the State or CSS (SamagraShiksha), thereby enhancing access to specialized education for our students.
3. The evaluation of sustaining or merging schools in villages and towns with adequate student populations to ensure their viability, while thoughtfully deactivating institutions that demonstrate diminishing enrollments or underperformance in HSLC exams.
4. The promotion of an equitable distribution of subject-specific teachers (in disciplines such as Science, Math, English, etc.) through a rational approach to teacher deployment that aligns with prescribed norms and disregards geographic limitations.
Call to Action: TAMS/SMILE App and Beyond
The SMC remains unwavering in its support for the thorough implementation of the TAMS/SMILE App, a digital initiative from the Department of School Education designed to streamline administrative processes. We kindly urge the government to:
1. Address any technical challenges that may hinder the efficacy of the app.
2. Ensure fair monitoring and implement necessary interventions for the teaching staff and educational institutions, thereby enhancing accountability.
3. Consider the extension of the TAMS/SMILE App model to all State Departments to foster greater transparency and accountability.
As the saying goes, “The tree that bears better fruits attracts more stones.” The SMC Tesophenyu Upper is confident that thoughtful and courageous reforms in the education sector will play a significant role in advancing the future of Nagaland. We advocate for a governance approach that harmoniously balances bold action with compassion.
