The Sangtam Students’ Union Kohima (SSUK) has expressed serious concern over the plight of the Nagaland RMSA Batch of 2016, who are yet to receive their entitled scale pay and have gone without salaries for the past five months.

In a press release, SSUK criticised the state government for its inaction despite a clear directive from the Supreme Court of India granting scale pay to the batch. The union pointed out that more than three months have passed since the apex court delivered its verdict, yet the order remains unimplemented.

Calling the situation an affront to the dignity of work, SSUK stated that the affected teachers have continued to discharge their duties without remuneration, reflecting negligence on the part of the authorities. “Teachers are the backbone of society — they nurture the next generation with dedication and sacrifice. To deprive them of their rightful dues is to undermine the very foundation of our education system,” the SSUK statement said.

The union voiced full support for the NLRMSA Batch 2016 in their appeal for justice and urged the government to release pending salaries immediately, implement the Supreme Court’s directive on scale pay in letter and spirit, and ensure fairness and accountability in its dealings with educators.

SSUK also appealed to student bodies, civil organisations and the general public to unite their voices against injustice, adding that teachers must be treated with the respect and fairness they deserve.
