The Nagaland government on Friday reviewed the vulnerability of NH-29 and NH-02 to landslides and road disruptions ahead of the monsoon season, with discussions also held on regulating the movement of heavy vehicles on the two key highways.
The issues were discussed during a monsoon preparedness meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex, Kohima, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio.
According to DIPR report, the meeting reviewed monsoon forecasts and preparedness measures across departments, including road maintenance, emergency response systems, healthcare readiness and supply of essential commodities.
The meeting discussed concerns over landslides and disruptions along NH-29 (Dimapur-Kohima) and NH-02 (Kohima-Mao), which remain among the most vulnerable stretches during the monsoon period.
The government also deliberated on possible regulation of heavy vehicles, particularly those with more than 10-wheel configurations, to ensure road safety and smooth traffic movement during the rainy season.
Departments including PWD (R&B), NHIDCL, Home Guards, Civil Defence, SDRF, Health & Family Welfare, and Food & Civil Supplies briefed the meeting on preparedness measures and emergency response plans.
Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio stressed the need for coordinated action, timely intervention and operational readiness among all departments to address monsoon-related challenges and minimise disruptions.
