A special program titled “Nagaland’s Global Footprints: Cultural Diplomacy & International Engagements” was held on August 1, 2025, at the State Banquet Hall, Kohima, to celebrate the state’s growing international presence through cultural diplomacy and global collaborations. The event was hosted by the Government of Nagaland and attended by key dignitaries, including Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio, who was the Special Guest.

In his address, Dr. Rio shared personal experiences from his official visits to Japan and Russia, expressing gratitude to the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy in Japan and Russia for the invitation and hospitality extended. He highlighted that Nagaland was one of six Indian states invited, and the only one from the North East. He announced that a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Nagaland and Kochi Prefecture in Japan for cooperation and human resource development.

The Chief Minister also noted ongoing partnerships with Japan, such as the JICA project, plans for a 400-bed hospital at the Nagaland Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, and training programs for medical professionals with placements in Japan. Future collaborations are being planned in the areas of education, sports, language training, and with institutions like the Sasakawa Peace Foundation.

Speaking about Nagaland’s cultural impact in Russia, Dr. Rio shared that the state’s participation in the closing ceremony of Bharat Utsav gained international recognition through stellar performances by Naga artists. He also mentioned the upcoming inauguration of the Russia Today studio in Delhi and commended the cultural richness, infrastructure, and discipline observed in both Japan and Russia.

The Chief Minister officially launched TREEKAM, an international music collaboration album cover coordinated by producer Arpito Gope. He also presented citations to artists who participated in Bharat Utsav – Festival of India held in Russia.

Advisor to the Chief Minister and IDAN Chairman, Abu Metha, presented key outcomes of the international visits, which included institutional collaborations, youth empowerment opportunities, and the promotion of ‘Brand Nagaland’ in tourism, investment, and cultural sectors.

Earlier, Nchumbemo Lotha, Secretary of the Tourism Department, addressed the gathering. Musical performances were presented by the Catholic Youth Association of Christ the King Church, Vilhou Kezo, Kedo and Vetho, and Kekhrie Ringa & Friends.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Theja Meru, Chairman of TaFMA. The programme was attended by cabinet ministers, advisors, MLAs, and dignitaries from various departments.
