Kohima only: RPP
Mokokchung, March 19 (MTNews): Basing on observations made during their ongoing walkathon around the state, the Rising People’s Party said today that the UDA government of Nagaland should present appropriate budgetary allocations for critical sectors during the ongoing session of the NLA. “Even as the walkathon is yet to be completed, the observation of the RPP is that there is no governance in the state, especially in eastern Nagaland area. In short, the state government’s machinery is basically confined to Dimapur and Kohima areas only,” RPP said in a press statement issued today.
The RPP also pointed out a number of critical issues and demanded to make budgetary allocations for these sectors at the ongoing assembly session of NLA.
RPP said that the national highway connecting Shamator and Tuensang districts remains cut off since 2018 due to landslide creating undue hardship for commuters and transporters. It demanded that the landslide area covering approximately 500 meters should be either repaired or an alternative bridge over Yaye River be constructed immediately.
RPP also pointed out that the Hurongki mini-hydel project over Yaye River, Shamator district, which was constructed in 1986 should be commissioned after necessary investment. “The project was completed decades back but due to non commissioning for reasons best known to the government, the machines and turbines have been wasted over the years,” RPP said.
Aboi sub-division under Mon district is probably the fastest growing town in Nagaland today, according to RPP. “It has about 11 schools including 1 higher secondary school. To cater to the higher education needs of the place, the state government should set up a college in the sub-division without delay,” RPP demanded.
RPP also pointed out that the distance between Tamlu sub-division and Longleng town under Longleng district is approximately 65 kms., yet there is virtually no connectivity between the two places. This should be rectified immediately, RPP said.
RPP also demanded that the ancient Humlam salt road covering Wakching – Chingdang – Chinglong – Aboi should be constructed and black topped. “Salt used to be procured from Assam and supplied to Konyak areas and beyond through this ancient route. It’s important that the UDA government recognize the historical importance of this route,” RPP said.
Apart from the above, the RPP also demanded that the full force of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) be implemented in both Wakching Town and Wakching Village. “Both town and village are bereft of water and it’s unbelievable that for years the situation has remained unchanged,” RPP said, while adding that it is unacceptable that “while villages in and around Dimapur are benefitting from the JJM project, Wakching/Tamlu/eastern Nagaland is suffering.”
RPP also suggested that Aboi and Tobu areas be upgraded to districts. “Last but not the least, the other observation of the RPP is that Aboi and Tobu deserve to be upgraded to districts. If for administrative convenience Chumoukedima district can be created, there’s no reason for Aboi and Tobu people to suffer,” RPP reasoned.
